Why is there something rather than nothing? It is the ultimate question: Why are we here, and what is the point? For some, this persistent enigma is easier to ignore or pacify. Some are able to distract themselves from the conundrum beneath the endless monotony of everyday existence with entertainment, relationships, and the pursuit of money; religion is used to soothe the fear of suffering, death, and primordial aloneness. But for others, this question remains ever-burning, and that is why I practice Art – it is a search. This artistic search inherently lends itself to questions regarding the experience of reality, what it means to be within reality, and what it means to be searching in uncharted territory in which there are no concrete answers. The methods of art-making I employ directly relate to the character of my investigation; I utilize chance, found objects, and the philosophies of great thinkers; I place an emphasis on mood and process instead of overt forms.
